Scales Of Justice :: Free Essays
à à à à à Scales of Justice shows a police force where there is a culture of corruption. The parts of the TV program that we saw were made up of two parts, The Job, and the Game. The Job is about a new probationary officer named Webber, and how he is forced to accept the corruption that occurs in the force, and ends up getting fired. The Game takes corruption to a new level involving higher powers such as MPââ¬â¢s and non-uniformed officers. They both are good examples of how it is a culture for them. à à à à à The corruption that occurs in the Job is nothing unusual or abnormal, even to some of the higher ranked officers. Much of it involves accepting small bribes and breaching the code of conduct that is involved in being a policeman. For example, on more than on occasion, Sergeant Borland drinks and smokes while he is on duty. He then ended up influencing the new officer, Webber, to drink on duty. There is also an instance where Borland was offered an insufficient bribe so he locked the guy up and took him to court. He then influenced Webber to testify and say that he saw the man offer the bribe, which he didnââ¬â¢t see. à à à à à Many times it is shown that officers avoid crime because there is too much paperwork to go with it. While Webber and Borland were on duty, the saw a moving car collide with a parked car, and Webber was told to do a U-turn. This was because if they caught the guy that did it, they would have to do several hours of paperwork. There was also a scene in the show when Borland told Webber about a time he found a corpse in a river, and they dumped in back inside because it would be too much of a hassle dealing with it.

Nicki minaj and Michael Jackson Essay
The Jackson 5 (also spelled The Jackson Five, sometimes stylized The Jackson 5ive), later known as The Jacksons, or simply Jacksons, are an American popular music family group from Gary, Indiana. Founding group members Jackie Jackson, Tito Jackson, Jermaine Jackson, Marlon Jackson and Michael Jackson formed the group after performing in an early incarnation called The Jackson Brothers, which originally consisted of a trio of the three older brothers. Active from 1964 to 1990, the Jacksons played from a repertoire of R&B, soul, pop and (in the 1970s) disco. During their six-and-a-half-year Motown tenure, The Jackson 5 was one of the biggest pop-music acts of the 1970s, and the band served as the launching pad for the solo careers of their lead singers Jermaine and Michael, the latter brother later transforming his early Motown solo fame into greater success as an adult artist. The Jackson 5/The Jacksons have sold 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the best selling artis ts of all time!!!!!!!! Nicki minaj Born in 1982, Nicki Minaj grew up with an abusive, addicted father. She attended La Guardia High School for the Arts, she was introduced to rapper Lil Wayne, who launched her career. Her 2010 debut album, pink friday, wit the single ââ¬Å"Your Love,â⬠topped the Billboard charts. A frequent ââ¬Å"cameoâ⬠singer, Minajââ¬â¢s voice was featured in seven songs on the charts. In 2012, Early Life Hip-hop artist and singer Nicki Minaj was born Onika Maraj on December 8, 1982, in Trinidad and Tobago, and moved with her family to Queens, when she was 5 years old. Minajââ¬â¢s father was a severe drug addict with a long history of violence. At one point, he set fire to the familyââ¬â¢s home and tried to kill Minajââ¬â¢s mother. Those early struggles, Minaj has said, helped fuel her drive to rise above the life her parents knew. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ve always had this female-empowerment thing in the back of my mind,â⬠she told Details magazine, ââ¬Å"because I wanted my mother to be stronger, and she couldnââ¬â¢t be. I thought, ââ¬ËIf Iââ¬â¢m successful, I can change her life.'â⬠To reach that point, however, nicki developed personas for herself that would allow her to be a ââ¬Å"new person.â⬠An early incarnation was someone she called ââ¬Å"Cookie,â⬠then came ââ¬Å"Harajuku Barbie,â⬠before finally settling on Nicki Minaj. ââ¬Å"Fantasy was my reality,â⬠she has said. Minaj clearly had a knack for performance. At the age of 12, she authored her first rap, then went on to delve into acting at La Guardia High School of Music and Art, the school that inspired the movie Fame. Rapper and Singer Determined to make it in the music business, Minaj took on backup singing roles for local New York City rappers. Soon, she began writing her own material. She was eventually discovered by Dirty Money CEO Fendi, who came across Minajââ¬â¢s MySpace page, loved what he heard, and immediately signed her to his label. That connection led Minaj to Lil Wayne, who collaborated with her on a series of mix tapes, the first of which, Playtime is Over, was released in April 2007. The recording, and subsequent mixed tapes, showcased Minajââ¬â¢s female swagger and out-front style. By early 2010, considerable anticipation had built up around Minajââ¬â¢s much discussed, much covered debut album, which was scheduled for release that fall. In April of that year, she released her first single, ââ¬Å"Massive Attack.â⬠Two months later she won Best Hip-Hop Female at the annual BET Awards. She dedicated the award to Lil Wayne.she later became an America idol jugde.

Higher Percentage of Minority Inmates - 1696 Words
Nichelle McClain Prof. Shaner GSW 1110 15 November 2010 Higher Percentage of Minority Inmates There are over millions of people incarcerated but African Americans and Latinos make up most of the prison population. To attempt to stop certain problems, the criminal justice system just put people behind bars and expects that everything will be fine, when in reality it isnââ¬â¢t because now the jails are becoming overcrowded. Dealing with the drug war, racial profiling, and people growing up in low-income neighborhoods and high-poverty rates, minorities have a higher inmate ratio but the drug war is the greatest cause of why the minority inmate ratio is so high. Since the year 1980 the numbers for incarcerated minorities has been staggering butâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦According to the American Civil Liberties Union, ââ¬Å"African Americans make up an estimated 15% of drug users, but they account for 37% of those arrested on drug charges, 59% of those convicted and 74% of all drug offenders sentenced to prison.â⬠These statistic s show that minorities, especially African Americans have to pay the price, using their lives by going to jail or prison. Other races are just as guilty with the drug war but minorities are targeted more than the other races. The main cause to why there is a higher minority inmate ratio in jails and prisons is the war on drugs. But because of the war on drugs the police unfairly target minorities in the low income and high poverty neighborhoods. The police believe that most drugs are sold on the streets of these neighborhoods so they use a proactive policing system to find someone that is selling drugs. Most police racial profiling is done in the high poverty and low-income neighborhoods. Drug Policy also states, ââ¬Å"Racial profiling, street sweeps, buy and bust operations and other police activities have targeted people in street level retail drug transactions in low-income communities of color.â⬠Minorities and white drug offenders seem to get different sentences, and different treatment from the criminal justice system. As companies look for ways to strategically perform better in their respective industries many chose to outsource job functions. Outline Of The Workup Of Cervical Lymphadenopathy
Discuss the workup of cervical lymphadenopathy. How would your recommendations differ for adult, pediatric, and geriatric patients? Cervical lymphadenopathy is the enlargement or swelling of the cervical lymph nodes. Cervical lymph nodes are the lymph nodes located at the anterior and posterior aspect of the neck and under the jaw. A thorough knowledge of the anatomy of the neck is essential to formulate a differential diagnosis. Cervical lymphadenopathy is not uncommon, especially in children and therefore differential diagnoses are broad (Lang, Kansy, 2014). The causes of cervical lymphadenopathy can be infections, autoimmune disorders, or malignancy. What test would you do first and why? First and foremost, thing to do when a patient comes with cervical lymphadenopathy is to get a detailed history. The history should include questions such as the onset of lump; pain on lump; if the lump is unilateral or bilateral and other lumps present anywhere else in the body; any associated symptoms like fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, hemoptysis, night sweats, weight loss, or poor appetite; and any recent foreign travel, upper respiratory infection or TB exposure. It may be necessary to obtain a detailed sexual, smoking and drug abuse history. Next step is the physical examination by palpating the nodes to assess the size, shape, matting and consistency (Mohseni et al., 2014). In addition, check for tenderness, mobility, erythema and warmth. It is important to

Mark Whetu and Mike Rheinberger Essay Example For Students
Mark Whetu and Mike Rheinberger Essay Arising lethargic and groggy after their sleepless night at camp six, Mark Whetu and Mike Rheinberger were slow to dress, melt ice, and get out of the tent at three oclock in the morning. They should have left at one at the latest but the wind was too gusty. Unfortunately, by the time they loaded their backpacks, strapped on their crampons and were ready to leave, it was three thirty. Mark, an experienced climber knew they wouldnt summit before one p. m. but he had only been hired as a guide for Rheinberger, who, after seven tries at Mount Everest had still not been able to summit. For Rheinberger, descent was totally unacceptable. Too much labour, too many sleepless nights, and too many dreams had been invested to not summit. He couldnt come back for another try next weekend. To go down now, would have raised one big question: what might have been? Mark was in front of Rheinberger and was growing impatient with his dismal pace. Ahead of them Mark spotted another team, returning unsuccessful from their summit attempt. As the other team passed, they chatted a little. It wasnt until then that Mark realised how late it was. Twelve thirty. They were more than four hours from the summit, if they hurried. Rheinberger was not quitting now. Mark decided not to argue and the duo continued their ascent. At five thirty, when the light was slowly fading, they were so close to the summit. Rheinberger was quickening his pace now as he knew victory was in his grasp. At six oclock, Rheinberger had finally accomplished what he been previously unable to do for the last ten years. But even in this moment of triumph, he was weakening with every oxygen-deprived breath. Down to one knee, watching the sun disappear, he looked like this was what he was sent to earth to do. Alarm soon hit them both, as when they were only meters from the top the light disappeared altogether. Well bevy. Suggested Rheinberger. Its the only thing we can do. Unfortunately he was right. Thought Mark. And so, they bedded down for the night in the death zone. A height where the body is dying à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â¬Å" starved, from life giving oxygen. When Mark awoke in the morning he knew his feet were frozen. He felt disconnected from the world around him à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â¬Å" emotionally, spiritually, physically à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â¬Å" to a degree he had never experienced on any previous expedition. It was the worst night he had ever experienced in his life. He just wanted to get home. Rheinberger was in a worse shape than Mark, but both were still able to stand and make a start for camp five. If they could just get to camp five they would be all right. They only made a hundred or so meters before Rheinberger collapsed. He was in real trouble. Shivering uncontrollably, acting very spacey and irrational, and basically unable to do anything more for himself. Mark was not going to give up easily. He forced Rheinberger to his feet and he tied both of them together. He was going to get Rheinberger down, even if he was going to have to drag him. After another couple of meters Rheinberger tripped and fell, dragging Mark with him. Mark clung to a rock as Rheinberger toppled haplessly over an edge. Let go! Mark shouted in desperation. Youre dragging me down! Luckily the rope broke and Rheinberger only fell a few meters to a ledge. His jacket sprayed open. Mark descended to him and saw the radio. The radio he had forgotten all about. He radioed base camp who were happy to hear from him, as they had feared the worst. They told him to leave Rheinberger and go get some oxygen tanks that were at the first step and take them back up. Rheinberger was in no condition to walk unless he had oxygen, so Mark reluctantly descended to the first step telling Rheinberger that he would be right back. .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f , .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f .postImageUrl , .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f , .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f:hover , .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f:visited , .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f:active { border:0!important; } .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f:active , .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u48efa5f46258bd4a96c2b2712281305f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Free Hamlets: The Foils in Hamlet Hamlet ess EssayWhen he arrived there, so exhausted and sore, base camp told him to rest, suck some gas and wait for a man who was coming up from camp five to help. The Wall by Pink Floyd free essay sample
The Wall Pink Floyd ââ¬Å"The Wallâ⬠came out on November 30th in 1979; its a rock opera that explores abandonment and isolation, symbolized by a metaphorical wall. The songs create an approximate storyline of events in the life of the protagonist, Pink, a character based on Syd Barrett as well as Roger Waters. Pink is oppressed by his overprotective mother, and tormented at school by tyrannical, abusive teachers. All of these traumas become metaphorical bricks in the wall. The protagonist eventually becomes a rock star, his relationships marred by infidelity, drug use, and outbursts of violence. As his marriage crumbles, he finishes building his wall, completing his isolation from human contact. ââ¬Å"Another Brick In The Wallâ⬠(part 1) is the third song on this album; Its about Pink being insulted by a teacher and then later he dreams that the children in his school begin to protest against their abusive teachers. Pink keeps asking himself how he should complete its construction. ââ¬Å"Hey Youâ⬠is the fourteenth song on this album; its the most mysterious song on the The Wall. The phrase ââ¬Å"Hey Youâ⬠is used to implies calling out to someone. This song is about his breakup of his first wife, all the misery and pain and being out on the road when the woman declares over the phone that shes fallen in love with someone else and that hes trying his best to regain contact with the outside world. ââ¬Å"Comfortably Numbâ⬠is the nineteenth song on this album and many people thought this song was about drugs but this song compares Pinkââ¬â¢s memories of being feverishly ill as a child and as an adult he got that feeling again. Dave Gilmour wrote the music while he was working on a solo album in 1978. Gilmour believes that this song can be divided into two sections, dark and light. The light are the parts that begin ââ¬Å"When I was a childâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ and the dark parts are the ââ¬Å"Hello, is there anybody in there.â⬠One of the best selling albums of 1980, ââ¬Å"The Wallâ⬠had sold over 23 million by centuryââ¬â¢s end. It topped the charts in six different countries, including the United States, and reached the Top 10 in several more. ââ¬Å"The Wallâ⬠followed as a major motion picture in 1982. The band followed the album with a highly theatrical tour which included building and tearing down a 40-foot high wall of cardboard bricks on the stage. This would be the last Pink Floyd tour to include Waters (who left the band in 1983).
